The routine
Fifteen minutes, twice a year
- Glass — mild soap and water or standard glass cleaner; avoid razor blades and abrasives that scratch low-E coatings.
- Tracks & rollers — vacuum the debris, wipe the track, and use a silicone (never oil-based) lubricant; that’s the whole secret to decades of gliding.
- Weatherstrip & seals — wipe clean, check for tears; catching a worn seal early is a service call, not a replacement.
- Shutters & shades — dust louvers with a dry cloth; composite tolerates damp wiping, wood prefers dry. Fabrics: vacuum with a brush head.
- Screens — pop out, rinse, air-dry, re-seat. Twice a year keeps the view clear and the mesh healthy.
