What makes a plantation shutter worth it
Plantation shutters are the only window covering that’s genuinely part of the house — furniture-grade joinery, fitted to the opening, adding value that shows up at resale. What matters when you buy them:
- Louver size — 2½″, 3½″, or 4½″. Bigger louvers, bigger view and more light; smaller reads more traditional. We bring samples so you see it on your window, not a brochure.
- The fit — a real custom shutter is measured to the opening’s exact squareness, not cut down from stock. That’s the difference you feel every time it closes.
- Mount style — inside mount for the clean built-in look, outside mount when the opening calls for it. We’ll show you both.

How custom shutter pricing works
We don’t publish a price, and we’d rather explain why than hand you a number that turns out to be wrong. Interior shutters are made to the window they go into — they mount inside the opening, so every panel is built to that opening’s measurements. That is why an honest price comes after measuring, not before. A number given sight-unseen is a guess, and guesses get corrected upward later.
What actually moves the number:
- How many windows you’re covering — and which rooms actually need it
- Size and shape of each opening — arches, angles and specialty shapes are their own job
- Louver size — it changes how the room looks and how much light and view you keep
- Material and finish you choose
- How the frame has to be fitted to your opening, and how easy that opening is to reach

- Professional measure. Every opening is measured properly, because what you order is manufactured to those measurements.
- Custom manufacturing. Your shutters are then genuinely made to your windows — Norman lines.
- Installed by the family’s own crew. Not handed to whichever subcontractor is free that week.
We’ll give you realistic expectations on timing in person, once we know what you’re ordering — manufacturing time depends on what you choose, and we’d rather be accurate than optimistic.
Common questions
Wood or composite for plantation shutters?
Both have their place. Real wood is lighter and takes stains beautifully; composite shrugs off moisture in kitchens and baths. We walk you through it looking at your actual windows — see our wood shutters page for the deeper comparison.
Do plantation shutters help with energy?
Yes — closed louvers add a real insulating layer against summer heat, and they’re one of the few coverings that also add resale value.
How long until they’re installed?
Custom shutters are built to your measurements, so manufacturing takes several weeks — your written quote gives you the honest timeline up front, and installation itself is typically a single visit.
Do you repair windows, or replace glass only?
No — we’re a replacement company. We don’t take on repairs or glass-only work, and we don’t install skylights. If that’s what you need, we’d rather tell you now than waste your afternoon.
Which areas do you serve?
Los Angeles, Orange and Ventura counties, plus parts of Riverside and San Bernardino. If you’re not sure whether you’re in range, call and ask — it’s a thirty-second answer.
Which shutters do you install?
Norman shutters — custom interior plantation shutters and wood shutters, made to your openings. For replacement windows we install Milgard. We don’t carry every brand on the market, and we’ll tell you plainly what we do and don’t sell.
Do I have to decide at the estimate?
No. The estimate is free and there’s no obligation. You get your measurements and an exact price in writing, and you take as long as you like with it.
